If one Mega Millions lotto ticket matches all six numbers for the half-billion dollar mega-jackpot, the winner would have the hoice of receiving the full jackpot in 26 annual payments of about $19.2 million, or a cash option of approximately 359.4 million US dollars.
“Friday night’s MegaMillions lotto drawing will truly be a spectacular event in lottery history and provides an unprecedented opportunity for lotto players to take a chance on a half-billion dollar dream for a little price of a ticket,” said Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery and lead director for the MegaMillions lottery group.
More than 4.7 million tickets won prizes in Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing, including four tickets that each won 1 million US dollars and 43 tickets that each won $250,000.
This jackpot has been growing since January 24, when Mega Millions had its most recent jackpot winner. The Mega Millions jackpot has now rolled 18 times without a winner. The odds of winning the jackpot are approximately one in 176 million. The odds of winning any of the MegaMillions prizes are approximately 1 in 40.
2012-01-15: AMERICAN LOTTERY POWERBALL INTRODUCES NEW RULES OF THE GAME
As of 15 January 2012 the American Power Ball lottery organisers introduce changes which are bound to please our players:
- the initial jackpot – the main prize pool – will be doubled from 20 million to 40 million dollars
- with each rollover the jackpot will increase by at least 10 million dollars
- the range of extra numbers – red Power Balls – has been reduced from 39 to 35, which increases the chance of scoring the main win
- the odds of scoring any win will increase from 1:35 to 1:32
- the payment for scoring the second degree prize – betting on 5 correct numbers – will increase from 200 thousand to 1 million dollars
Principal Power Ball rules remain unchanged, now when making a bet a player selects 5 numbers out of 59 and one out of 35.
